careme_painting_600.jpgclick to enlargeCarême cooking classes are about creating good food and enjoying it. We are based at Palliser Estate winery in Martinborough and offer a day designed around creating our fresh and tasty food matched with outstanding Palliser wines.

We will show you how easy it is to make good food at home, how a few simple tricks and techniques can make food more interesting, and how straightforward some of the so-called difficult recipes are to make yourself. Plus we get to taste great wines to round out the experience, and enjoy the fruits of our labours with lunch.

I have always worked with food. My partner, artist Stephen Allwood and I ran Café Medici in Martinborough for 11 years, and before that Fed Up Eatinghouse in Ponsonby, Auckland, amongst others. My favourite food style is French, they just take food more seriously. I like their timeless, classic use of regional resources and ingredients, and the inspiration of historic figures like Carême and Escoffier. I want to share this inspiration with you.
