someone who can take you on journeys...

Gaye Sutton began her storytelling career lying on bunks and sitting on couches with one or more children on her knee. “Whenever my children couldn’t find the stories they wanted on our bookshelves or in the library - or if a particular storybook character appealed to them- I would create a story to fit the request.”

Later, she spent many years listening to life stories in counselling rooms and while teaching adult students. Always, she was, and still is, amazed by the heroic qualities people display in their day to day lives. “Joseph Campbell was right when he connected ancient stories with the emotional concerns of modern life as he said, ”The latest incarnation of Oedipus, the continued romance of Beauty and the Beast stand this afternoon, on the corner of 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue waiting for the lights to change.”

Soon she found herself looking for stories that reflected the themes people brought to counselling and to discover the places where her own story touched universal myths and narratives.

She is naturally funny and a true original. Her style is more stand-up homily than stand-up comedy, with a slight flap of her hands here and a nod of her head there she can deliver a riveting anecdote...where has she been all our lives? She needs to tread the boards again... get on the telly... Jane Bowron Dominion Post.

Gaye Sutton came to Denmark in 2000 and told stories to Family Therapists and talked about using them in therapy. She inspired Family Therapists to work differently- Bodil Burian, Director, Familievaekstedeme I Aarhus.
