Joxer Daly's Steak & Ale House

joxerdaly.jpgJoxer Daly is a character in "Juno and The Peacock", a play by Sean O'Caset. He's a hard drinkin', wild livin' Dublin man, shot in the hip in the rebellion and limpin' his way to many's the free pint on account of it ever after. A man with a fierce mouth on him, not one to hold his breath unless there's a Pint of Guinnessto his lips. There's a glint in his eye halfway between truth and mischief. He has a keen nose for the horses and a keener nose for the ladies, who are betimes struck by his roguish charm and rugged good looks. He can land himself in a scrape but he can talk his way out of his own coffin, and he'll talk for as long as it takes the pint to put a stop to his gallop. He has an opinion on every matter of the day, whatever time you require to hear it.

Joxer Daly's Steak and Ale House is a good place of good old fashioned eatin' and drinkin', where the music plays loud and long into the night and the crack is ninety. It's a place where men are men and women feel lively. Where you might get a wiff of gossip and hope it's not about yourself. It can be unruly and unpredictable, you wouldn't know what you might be getting yourself into, but sure, you'll be all right on the night and friends again tomorrow. The staff know you well and treat you as one of their own. Stay on the right side of them and your pint will always be the perfect one. Quiet solicitude is their manner, and discretion is often the order of the day, because it might not have been the night before.
