Concentrating on green/gold

Our 2009 harvest is now over and the beautiful green/gold oils sit settling in stainless steel tanks before bottling begins. This year we produced concentrated fruit from low yeilding trees which has enhanced the charateristices of each variety of oil. Over the next few weeks our oils will be analysed for the value of free fatty acid, peroxide levels and polyphenols before being sent for certification. In the meantime we are preparing our spring fertilisation and grove maintenance programme.

Juno Olives is an award-winning olive grove situated three minutes from historic Greytown and one hour's drive from Wellington. Our olive grove is set on 17 acres of stoney free-draining, alluvial soil with panoramic views towards the rugged Tararua Ranges. The closeness to the Tararua's provides a microclimate of hot, dry summer and temperate winter weather which contibute to perfecting the flavoursome characteristics of our oils.

The trees we grow are Tuscan varieties-Frantoio, Leccino, Moriolo and Pendolino and Greek Koroneiki and Kalamata. We aslo have a small amount of table olive varieties -Picholine from France and Picual from Spain.
