Wairarapa Wiki News

27/03/09 Our Wairarapa Wiki has now been indexed on the Destination Wairarapa website links page: [WWW]http://www.wairarapanz.com/?q=node/260 This is great news as it will enable more people to find and use the wealth of local information on this rapidly growing Wiki. —TomvanBodgraven

23/11/08 Today this Wairarapa Wiki reached 500 pages with the addition of Lansdowne House. Tom.

August 29, 2008. After 10 years of their 24/7 service Te Omanga Hospice closed its Wairarapa doors. This service has been taken over by the Wairarapa DHB. It was a sad day for Palliative care in Wairarapa with the loss of this outstanding 24/7 service provided by Te Omanga. I think it is fitting to leave the Te Omanga Hospice Wiki page as a memorial to Te Omanga Wairarapa. -Tom

07/01 Today this Wairarapa Wiki reached 400 pages. -Tom

04/01 Each page on our Wiki has a "Talk" page facility. A Talk page is an extra page which is kind of attached to your main page, and can be put to good use. It could for instance be used for price lists, menus, a discussion page, or a newsletter page. A nice example of a seasonal newsletter can be seen on the Purple Pumpkin page. A Talk page is not for everyone. On my own Bindu Design page I simply have no use for an extra page - the "Talk" icon at the top of my page is therefore grey (as on this News page), and means it's not active. -Tom.

21/12 Our Wairarapa Wiki has an outstandingly good search facility. To make this really work for you, you should try and incorporate potential key search queries into your intro text. Happy Valley Cycles has no intro text at all, but cleverly exploits the way people and search engines work, by using a string of likely search queries at the bottom of the page. Go and have a look. -Tom.

20/12 Thanks to WindyRidge for creating the Wairarapa Wiki "linking image" for us, which I have placed on this page for others to use (see item 19/12). Also thanks for using this image on your own links page of [WWW]your WindyRidge website. -Tom.

19/12 Please spread the word about our Wairarapa Wiki and make a link to it from your own website. "Linking Together" is what makes the Web the "Platform". This is what [WWW]Web 2.0 is all about. It's a Win Win. Make a text link or use this image created by WindyRidge: waiwiki.jpg

04/12 Have placed a link to our Wairarapa Wiki on [WWW]this Wikipedia page.

27/11 By getting yourself on the donation page, you not only help this Non-Profit Wairarapa Wiki project, you'll also get a lot more traffic (visitors) to your page - good news all round. "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." -WINSTON CHURCHILL.

22/07 Make sure you tell us about whatever is on your mind on Wairarapa COMMENT.

12/07 Correcting other people's typos is quite okay - in fact, it's a very good habit, since it makes our Wairarapa Wiki more readable.

14/05 Someone has asked whilst looking at a map (lets use the street map on the aratoi page) "what are all those red markers about?" The answer is they are simply other Wiki members. Just click on one, and you will see who it is. If you click again, but this time on the actual link, you'll be taken to that page. Try it. PS. You can drag the map around with you mouse - north, south, etc.

07/05 This Wiki can even be useful for something that does not exist. You can see this in action by typing "chess club" into the search box, or simply click on these links: Chess Club or Kite Flying.
