Rozanne Doherty
click to enlargeArtist and lover of creating, I grew up in the Wairarapa and after completing a certificate in visual art I went on to work in the picture framing and art supplies industry. I now enjoy living back in Greytown with my young family.
I am always inspired by items collected from past generations but also by our natural environment and my children. I like to explore different techniques and styles and other interests such as textiles, decorative patterns, interior design, and photography often influence my ideas and encourage my desire to make things. Often my aim is to create reminders of places I have been, things I have enjoyed or memories of my past.
Many of my recent works are inspired by tea sets and jugs, I find their shapes and arrangements enjoyable to paint and I often combine the idea of giving new life to old fabrics. I find these mostly floral textiles such as tablecloths, aprons, dresses or curtains, inspiring and appropriate for representing styles and designs of past decades on tea sets etc. I enjoy creating images that remind people of their childhood, It's great to hear someone laugh and say "hey, my nana had curtains made out of that."
My works can be viewed at The Village Art Shop in Greytown.
