We would like our discerning customers to enjoy our passion for this liquid gold
We have a very special location which has all the right 'ingredients' for producing Extra Virgin Olive Oils of individuality and outstanding quality.
The Olive Grove is in the heart of the beautiful Ruakokoputuna Valley just 15mins drive south of Martinborough and is situated on an ancient alluvial river terrace which consists of deep free-draining gravel formed over many thousands of years, climatic conditions have also assisted the deposit of nutrient rich sediments from the glaciers.
We believe that our olive trees seek the elements in these sediments to give Ruakokoputuna Extra Virgin Olive Oil its exceptional and quite distinctive flavours, assisted also by the long hot summers and cool winters. We have spent a great deal of time in Italy and France seeking good food, wine and olive oil and after a particular trip to Europe in 1999 we decided that we would like to produce something back in NZ so as a result Ruakokoputuna was purchased in November 1999 and in the autumn of 2000 we started to plant the olive grove - we chose a variety of olives and these are Pendolino, Leccino, Frantoio, Picual, Manzanillo, Kalamata, Uovo di Piccione, Picholene & Koroneiki - 1900 in total.
In May 2008 a state-of-the-art Pegaso 500 Olive Press was installed which means we are able to completely control the whole process of producing our World Class Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
We have added two new oils to our range - a Lemon Infusion which has a real blast of citrus flavour and a Chilli & Lime Infusion which has a stunning fresh lime flavour to complement the chilli.
In June 2009 Ruakokoputuna Extra Virgin Olive Oil Frantoio/Leccino/Picual Blend was awarded a Silver Medal and the Lemon Infusion a Bronze Medal at the most prestigious 'Oils of the World Competition' held in Los Angeles. Since our first release in 2004 we have won awards for our Extra Virgin Olive Oils on an International level against the world's best.
