St. Lukes Greytown is a parish that seeks to live out the greatest commandment of Christ, “Love one another just as I have loved you.”
As a congregation our desire is to create an environment of love, acceptance and forgiveness for any and all and be faithful partners with God in his plan to redeem creation.
What we believe…
We believe that God has revealed himself in scripture as a loving heavenly father who is alive and at work in the world he created and that his mission is to redeem everyone and everything and bring people’s spirits home to His love.
We believe that God has invited people to partner with him in his plan of redemption and sent His only son Jesus Christ to be our way, our truth and the source of our life and has given us the Holy Scriptures to teach us his ways and help us learn from the past mistakes of those who worked against God’s desires.
We believe that God moves in us and through us through his Holy Spirit who empowers us to overcome our selfishness and pride and helps us become more like Christ, humble servants of love, acceptance and forgiveness. We believe that this is the ultimate journey of the spiritual life and invite you to join us.
St. Luke’s offers a diversity of Worship:
Sunday Mornings at 9:30 we have our family service which is based on the liturgy of the New Zealand Prayer Book Eucharist. It is more traditional in flavour but we aren’t afraid to mix it up a bit with new music and creative sermon illustrations etc. This service also offers ministry to Children.
Sunday Evenings at 7PM we have a totally different style of worship gathering that include contemporary worship music with a band and an interactive style of bible teaching and reflection. We intentionally keep this service bit more loose and responsive to what the Spirit might be doing or what the congregation may be needing. We also open to artistic expressions of worship so don’t be surprised to discover paints or sketching pencils as part of the worship. This is an all ages gathering.
Monday Afternoons is our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd ministry. See the following website for more info… click here
We have two sessions 1:30 to 2:30 for pre-school ages.
And 3:15-4:15 for primary school age.
Friday mornings we host a community Music and Movement event for pre-schoolers. This is a great opportunity for Kids to get down to the music and for parents to sit down and be with other parents. The cost is only a Gold coin donation.
The first Thursday of the month we have a pre-loved clothing sale in the Church hall. Here you can find a fantastic bargain on clothing or sit down and have a cuppa and a chat with our friendly volunteers.
