Steffan Brown
Stefan was bought up in a musical family, his father, Bernie Brown, a recognized singer, was also a well known TV personality who also released a number of recordings for EMI.
Stefan started his musical journey in choirs and singing with his family who often sang in and around the Taranaki region in the 50s and early 60s. After the family shifted to Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand Stefan became musically involved with some school friends and quickly became established in a well known pop band Stacey Grove,.. Stefan started to make a name for himself as a singer songwriter and as a guitarist around the Wellington region. His group stacey Grove were runner up in the Battle of the bands. And went on to record their first single Please Mr Neighbour on the Phillips label.
Stefan then was part of a group joined by Don Wilson in the band called "Ebony". Stefan and Don they penned the no 1 Hit "Big Norm" which shot to number one for 11 weeks becoming the biggest seller in New Zealand since Hey Jude. This became a milestone in Stefans career and earned him a gold disc, the NZ rata award for group of the year. The group split and all went in different directions.
Stefan teamed up with Steve Gilpin. The driving force behind Misex. They toured NZ for a while as Duece but his love for jazz and swing finally came to the fore and he pursued a totally new direction, travelling over seas for more opportunities .
Steffan often plays at the Cross Creek Blues Club.
